Friends of the Library are delighted to invite you to – Cyber Poetry and Digital Art with Jason Nelson.

Jason Nelson is set to entice, excite and challenge the idea of what poetry should be at the upcoming Friends of the Library event held on Tuesday September 25 at the Learning Zone, Griffith University Gold Coast Campus Library (G10).

Born from the Oklahoma flatlands of farmers and spring thunderstorms, Jason Nelson stumbled into creating awkward and wondrous digital poems, interactive stories and confounding art games (The latter described as ‘Basquiat meets Mario Brothers’).

Jason currently teaches Net Art and Electronic Literature at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus. Aside from coaxing his students into breaking, playing and morphing their creativity with all manner of technologies, he exhibits widely in galleries and journals, with work featured around globe including the Electronic Language International Festival (FILE), International Society of Electronic Arts (ISEA) and the Electronic Literature Organisation (ELO).

He is known to be at the forefront of digital art and has won numerous awards including the Paris Biennial Media Poetry Prize and the prestigious Webby Award. A member of the Australia Council Literature Board and the Electronic Literature Organisation, he is most proud of the millions of visitors his artwork/digital poetry portal attracts each year.

Jason will present a public lecture and exhibit his latest works at Griffith’s Gold Coast Campus Library.
