ICTS Showcase Impressive Technology

Last month ICTS took their Technology Showcase on the road to each campus, giving presentations to Griffith staff on emerging technologies and development updates.

The Nathan showcase kicked off with a rundown of the new hardware available from Dell, HP and Apple, then led in to a presentation by Adam Stirling (Team Leader, Audio Visual Development Team) about Mondo Pad, a new giant touch tablet with conferencing facilities. Adam explained that the Mono Pad’s impressive number of apps and features could benefit Griffith’s video conferencing virtualisation in the future.

Andrew McGregor (Project Manager) followed and spoke about video conferencing, including upgrades happening at the Mt Gravatt Campus; a number of old systems across the five campuses are being replaced, including m24 3.11a,  making the room a collaboration room. Andrew’s team has also provided an additional video conferencing meeting room option at each campus. These will be available from the 20th of November.

Telena Thompson (Change Manager) spoke about the AV equipment currently available to staff and added that the wireless microphone implementation across the multiple campuses has had fantastic feedback.

Carrie Clarke (Computing Support Specialist) and Blake Carney (Senior Project Manager) spoke about desktop virtualisation (DV) in the University environment – while Carrie showcased some ideas that she has been researching in regards to DV, (including the very impressive Leap Motion), Blake told the audience facts related to the uptake of desktop virtualisation in the workplace and showed that it is still in ‘trial’ stages.

Giuseppe Poli (Senior Team Leader) said that he was pleased with how the ICTS showcase turned out. “People were really engaged, it was great to see. I’d say the Logan campus session was the best. We also had some high-profile staff members attend, which was fantastic.

The consistent feedback I got was that people didn’t realise just how much technology CTS is looking at and it’s great to know about it.  [Attendees] want to have another [showcase] next year.”

If you would like more information on any of the topics and/or projects that were featured in the ICTS showcase, please call x55555 and ask for one of your local Technology Support staff to get in contact with you.
