Microsoft Technology Lounge launched on the Gold Coast campusPosted: March 18, 2013
Staff and students now have access to the latest technology with the launch of the new Microsoft Technology Lounge at Griffith’s Gold Coast campus Library.
Griffith has partnered with Microsoft to create the ‘Tech Lounge’, a space featuring a modern retro fit out with comfortable lounge chairs, surface tablets with the latest touch screen technology and laptops installed with Windows 8.
On Friday 8 March, Vice Chancellor Professor Ian O’Connor welcomed guests to the launch of the only Tech Lounge located at the Gold Coast and one of only two lounges in Queensland.
“It allows students to experience the latest available technology, and raises awareness that computing on campus can be done in new and innovative ways,” Professor O’Connor said.
Guest speaker, Keith Downs, National Sales Manager, Microsoft stated that the “Tech lounge is really to be used as an experience centre for 21st century learning for all students to come into their own environment on campus.”
The proceedings concluded with Linda O’Brien, Pro Vice Chancellor, Information Services inviting guests to try out the new technology such as Xbox 360’s with Kinect that allows game play without the use of a controller and utilises the latest voice recognition software.
The Microsoft Tech lounge is located on the ground level of the Gold Coast campus library (G10) and is open during Library opening hours. Students and staff are invited to enjoy this space and trial this new technology.
