PLEASE NOTE: This event has been postponed to the new date of Thursday 7 November, 5.30pm-7.30pm. Our guest speaker, Pia Waugh, has been asked by the World Bank to travel to Jakarta to assist with developing an open data and open government strategy with the Indonesian Government and World Bank experts. Friends of the Library apologise for this late date change, yet are excited Pia will return from Indonesia with even more international open data observations to share with you.
Join leading open data expert Pia Waugh as she presents insights and news from the current open data environment.
Friends of the Library are delighted to invite you to Open Data, Open Governance.
Pia Waugh is the Director of Gov 2.0 for the Federal Department of Finance and Deregulation and a notable community leader for the open government movement. In this upcoming Friends of the Library event, Pia will share the successes, challenges and opportunities available with open data.
The global open data initiative is about encouraging the provision of open data, in an effort to share it and harness the infinite opportunities it creates.
Come along and hear what Australia is doing to provide open access to data. Listen to how Queensland is a part of the open data revolution and how it is allowing growth and job creation while driving innovation and providing benefits to the community. Learn about the opportunities and challenges of leveraging the data and creating value from it from an implementation and research perspective.
Pia will discuss some case studies, such as GovHack, and the tools and mechanics to leverage value from individual and mashup data sets from government and researchers.
This event is free to attend, but registrations are essential.
Following the presentation, Friends of the Library will be hosting a cocktail reception for Friends members only.
