Orientation is just around the corner…

  • Information Services is offering heaps of valuable orientation and transition activities for your students in the lead up to and during Semester 2.

If you would like us to run a session for you within a particular program, or be involved with your staff in any other type of orientation and transition collaboration, please use the online request form and/or information listed below.

Online Options

The following online tutorials and websites can easily be incorporated into an orientation program.

  • Help me I’m a first year (youtube video) Hot tips from students in the know! Friendly advice for students on how to use their time well, manage stress and study strategies that actually work from those who have learnt the hard way!
  • Study Smart – An online tutorial covering topics relating to research, writing and studying at Griffith University.
  • Academic Integrity Tutorial – An online tutorial aiming to help students understand what academic integrity is and why it matters at Griffith University.
  • Referencing Tool – An easy to use tool to assist students know how to appropriately reference different types of information.
  • Student Computing  – A one stop IT shop for students computing needs. Topics covered include; How to get online, where to get online, software, training, lecture capture, learning@griffith, Student discounts and more.
  • Library Orientation – An overview of activities provided by the Library.

Workshops and Library Tours

July 21-26, 2014 Earlybird Workshops

This one week series of free “study skills” workshops aims to help students gain a beginning sense of academic capability and resourcefulness. Workshops are offered at a variety of times, and on a range of days (including Saturday), thus encouraging students to visit the university on more than one occasion and familiarize themselves with their new environment. Session topics include;

  • Strategies for study at university (2hrs)
  • Academic writing (2hrs)
  • Get ready to research (1.5hrs)
  • Reading and note taking (2hrs)
  • Understanding Referencing (1.5hrs)
  • Getting started with a Mac (2hrs)*
  • Getting started with a Windows PC (2hrs)*
  • Introduction to Griffith’s online environment (1.5hrs)

July 21-25, 2014 Library Orientation (Tours)

During Orientation week (21-25 July)  library tours are available in any of our campus libraries.  Tours will run during the times below and are approximately 15 minutes in duration.

Nathan Library
Every half hour on the hour and half hour
10am-2pm daily
Gold Coast Library
Every half hour on the hour and half hour
10:30am-1:30pm daily
Mt Gravatt Library as required 12 noon-2pm
Logan Library as required 12 noon-2pm
South Bank – College of Art and Conservatorium of Music Libraries as required 12 noon-2pm

Please advise your students to wait at the Library Tour Meeting Point in the foyer of the Library. There is a maximum of 15 students on each tour. No bookings required.
